The Allen Edmond Clifton is a great semi-formal shoe. It fits in on business casual Friday or at the bar. I wear a size 9 in running shoes, such as Nike, but had to size down 1/2 a size for the proper fit. I recommend some shoe trees and polish to keep the leather in good condition. The cap toe adds a bit of style without going overboard. Subtle, the way I like it.
I purchased my first pair of these shoes last year because when I first tried them on in the store, they felt better than any shoe I've ever tried on -- of any type! Over the past year, the original pair have worn very well, so I decided to buy a second pair this year. These shoes are incredibly well-made, and they're stylish without being so much so that they will go out of fashion. I'm extremely happy with my purchases -- and my feet are happy!
The Clifton is perhaps the best Allen Edmond shoe available (and coincidently a Nordstrom exclusive). I recently added the Clifton to an AE collection that consisted of the Strand, McAllister, and Carlyle. The Clifton has by far been the most comfortable, proving its walkability after the first day of purchase. I started with a black pair and ordered it in Walnut the next day. Both are now my favorite in the AE collection and they probably get more wear than the others.
I have read that the last is slightly different compared to the 5 (65) last (Strand, Mcallister, etc), and that may be one explanation of the comfort. As the days have gone on, the shoes have formed to my foot and are an even greater pleasure to wear. I may even purchase a 3rd pair in Burgundy. I can't wait for the patina on the Walnut Cliftons to develop over time.
This shoe is highly recommended for anyone who wants high quality at this price point.
