I was drawn to this because of its 'shine control' claims. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a great deal of that going on here. The pros: it glides on easily and dries to a matte velvety finish with a light to medium coverage. It's supposed to be buildable up to full coverage but I was unable to achieve that, and I tried various methods of applying including brush, fingers and beauty blender. The cons: there is no pump (although you can purchase one separately) which can result in too much foundation. The bad thing about that being you can't exactly wipe the excess off of your fingers back into the bottle, well...you can but I wouldn't recommend it as you'll probably end up contaminating the product. When already spending this much on a foundation it's worth spend just that little bit more and investing in the pump, as annoying as it is that MAC don't supply one automatically with their foundations. I find Studio Fix oxidizes very quickly and also, it only lasts for 4 hours, 5 hours maximum before starting to crease and turn oily on me. So much for the 'shine control'! I'm able to remedy this to a certain extent by using a primer first, which gives me an extra couple of hours, but can't get it to extend for any longer than that. Part of that is due to the humidity where I live which reeks havoc with everything from my skin to my hair, so I have to factor that in when making any criticism about the lasting power of a foundation...or anything for that matter! I’m really happy with this foundation. It has full coverage with a brush but looks more natural with a sponge while still evening out imperfections. Very happy with this purchase. Not at all cakey.
I was excited to give this a try because I’ve always loved MAC, but when I used it for the first time it smelled so bad I actually looked up the batch number because I thought it might’ve been expired. I tried to wear it to see if The smell would go away but unfortunately it didn’t :(
I am currently 49 years old. A few years ago I got stuck in the Chicago airport when I missed my flight. I had been trying to find anything that would cover up my dark circles around my eyes and my many flaws - even laser treatments, tools that where going to "turn back the hands of time" and CRAZY expensive miracle moisturizers that did nothing. I had pretty much come to terms with the fact that I am old and no one cares how I look anyways. So here I am, stuck at the airport and I wander around and sign up to get my makeup done at a Mac store. This was an amazing experience and I have been hooked ever since. They made me feel like there was hope. This foundation covers without making you feel / look like you have a mask on. It is light and easy to apply. I have one I use in the winter when I am pale and one for summer and I love it!
