My first pair of Allen Edmonds

I’ve always heard about the exceptional quality of Allen Edmonds and by the price one would assume it was all true... my experience was not this. I opened my new arrival of the MacNeil Wingtip shoes and right away I was surprised and quite honestly shocked with the poor sewing job on the shoes. Granted from a distance someone wouldn’t be able to notice the irregularities, but in your hand you could see them. Threads that finished a stitch were left 1/8” above the leather requiring me to cut and melt them to ensure the didn’t become a problem later on. Secondly the square sewing near the bottom of the tongue was not even centered properly. Outside of that when you look at the tongues, the left shoe is not even sewed in the center it’s offset ( something you wouldn’t appreciate while your shoe is tied and laced, but I’m particular and want to know these things considering the cost and my first time in ownership of the “Legendary” shoes... What I do appreciate is the width, comfort and feel of the leather of the shoe, which is the main reason why I will keep these shoes. Overall, what they say is probably true regarding the change in quality since ownership has changed hands.

My first lasted 15 years with one resole! Love the classic look time for a new pair that I just got They fit like a glove with almost no break in I only buy AE shoes and get 10 plus years from each pair I have 8 pair and get a new one once or twice a year

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’ve been looking at these for awhile. I couldn’t be more pleased. I have slightly wider foot and most dress shoes fit too tight so width option is important.
