this was just what I was looking for. I also own a black pair of short boots by Frye, and wanted something similar in brown leather. true to size and breaks in quickly. I can wear them all day long.

I love these boots. I ordered them in my usual shoe size in the Gaucho color, which is a medium-dark matte brown. The rough leather and uneven color mean I can scuff them a bit and they still look fine. When I first tried them on, I thought my foot wouldn't go in, and then I realized the buckle over the instep isn't just decorative. (Neither is the one at the top of the shaft.) Unbuckled, my foot slid in, and I buckled it back up more loosely. After less than two months, the boots have stretched enough that the buckles are back in their original positions. They are comfortably snug when I'm wearing my usual thick socks, which provide cushioning from the unlined leather. They look great with skinny jeans or cords, and are slim enough to wear under straight legs too. The soles don't show any signs of wear after several outdoor excursions, and I hope they will last a long time. I'm thrilled that they're made in the USA, and I was lucky to catch them on a rare sale. If they had a cushioned insole, they would be perfect, but I love them anyway.

This is my 4th pair of frye boots and Im totally obsessed with this style. The frye engineer 12 is a classic and most comfortable boots ever. I recommend them to anyone. USA made

LOVE these boots !!! I would say they run true to size...I'm usually 7.5 to 8 (depending on shoe...I wear an 8 in clogs) and I got the 7.5 in these. When you first put them on, it feels snug going down shaft of boot but once you're down, your foot pops right in. So comfortable...from the first day...it's like I've been wearing them forever. Nice quality boot...little on the expensive side but well worth it...I will have these boots a long time. I wear them with bootleg jeans, skinny jeans tucked in and skirts...these boots ROCK !!!!
