I used this as a base coat then put my nail polish over it. Within 2 days my nail polish was chipping like crazy. After reading the reviews I decided to try it as a top coat to see if that helps.
I purchased this along with Essie's "Fill the Gap" base coat. I tried it four days ago for the first time after reading the reviews. I have thin and brittle nails. I am very happy with the results to date.
I applied one top coat over "Fill the Gap" and my nails look and feel great. The polish is thick and glides on my nails. It is shiny and dries relatively fast. No chips or dings yet, and that's a miracle for me.

I've only used this as a top coat (I have Essie's First Base as my base), so I can only speak to that.
Easy to use, not too thick, dries relatively quickly but make sure you do still give it enough time.
Maybe not as chip-resistant as the other Essie top coat I used to use (which was thicker and more "gel like"), but still very good in my opinion. One week after application, and I'm seeing only a minor chip at the tip of my finger.

I have not used this as a base coat, but it's great as a top coat! Super shiny and fast-drying, plus it helped my manicure last a few extra days.
