A great all purpose shoe.

I have loved this shoe through three generations (of the shoe that is). Nothing more comfortable, nothing so accommodating to almost whatever one might be wearing.

Outstanding Orthotic Shoe
PostedMay 18, 2016
I am a veteran Allen Edmonds wearer, having owned about 20 dress and casual styles over the years. I can say that the Ashton is by far the most comfortable of them all, and this includes even the casual models I've worn. The styling is not as sleek as some Italian shoes, or even many other AE models; however, this is still a good looking dressy casual shoe which has the added benefit of accommodating orthotics for those who need them.
In addition to the comfort and solid masculine look of the Ashton, I've found them to be very durable. I originally purchased them in black and wore them regularly for six years, had them recrafted through AE, and have continued to wear them for two additional years now. They look great and are still going strong after eight years. I also bought them in brown about two years ago, and that color looks rich and beautiful in person. Most recently, I purchased the Ashton in walnut and the color is outstanding and up to date. The calfskin leather is buttery soft and very high quality. I can say this shoe looks better in the brown and walnut than it does in black. Overall, this has been a go to shoe for me for almost a decade.

OK, I'll admit it--I was going to rate these five stars all around but didn't because I'm grousy old curmudgeon (the perfect Allen Edmonds customer). I got my first pair of AEs in the early '80s and have been a very satisfied customer over the years. But about five years ago, I noticed the the same styles I had been wearing for ages were starting to hurt. A trip to the podiatrist confirmed hallux rigidus and he fitted some custom orthotics that were and are basically useless. On a hunch, I got a pair of Ashtons half a size larger than I've worn for my entire adult life and bingo: no more foot or knee pain--and I spend at least six hours a day continuously on my feet. These shoes (as well as the Benton model) are a really generously comfortable fit--wide and deep in the toe box, snug in the heel and supportive in the midfoot. This is exactly the way shoes should fit. I've tossed the orthotics the podiatrist made, told him to the take the suggestion of a joint replacement and stuff it, and now have four pairs each of the Ashtons and Bentons (I had two of them dyed colors not offered by AE). So bottom line: If you have fitting issues and need something with a cushion-y vibaram sole and heel, lots of room and support, and that give you the options of using a removable orthotic or just running socks under your dress socks, these are unbeatable. To the folks at AE: Please make more styles in this last!! You have a loyal demographic of aging graybeards like myself so rely on us to open our wallets for a wider array of styles with this excellent fit.
