Wanted To Recommend But Just Can't

The creaking leather was just too much to bear. Liked everything about the shoe. Fit, comfort, etc. right on the money. Creaking leather, could not handle it. Sounds like a saddle makes when put on a horse. Even when sitting and holding the shoe while gently tugging the lace up portion apart the creakiness was apparent and very annoying. Too bad. Liked everything else about the shoe.

Thank you for your questions, comments or concerns about squeaking shoes. Squeaking sometimes occurs on new shoes because Allen Edmonds uses authentic leathers such as calf skin. When two pieces of new leather rub against each other, such as the leather lining, upper leather and /or tongue leathers, a slight squeaking may occur. The fix is usually quite simple; general wear will eliminate the noise or you can apply leather lotion as a lubricant. Lotion can be found at AllenEdmonds.com, most shoe shine stands or simply visit an Allen Edmonds store and have a store associate apply the lotion for you. They work for me - this is my third pair, the last 2 were "recrafted" 3 times each.

A great combination of style, comfort and most important to me, cushioning. I have had both knees replaced, the Aston makes a being on my feet for long periods far more tolerable.

Defective and Unwearable

I have owned more than a dozen pairs of AE shoes. Not sure I will own any more going forward. I am very disappointed in AE for continuing to sell these shoes knowing they have an issue. I had not read the reviews prior to purchase of two pairs. I received first pair six weeks ago. I put them on and loved the fit. Went to work. Noticed a squeak while walking into the office. Very audible, very annoying. Became known as the "baby toy shoes" in my office. I was sure to give AE full credit. Wore shoes a few more times around house to hopefully 'break them in' ... no luck. Second pair (had been backordered) arrived yesterday. I was hopefully first pair 'issues' were isolated. They are not. 2nd pair squeaks worse than first. Both pairs will be returned. Whether I return as a customer remains to be scene. AE clearly doesn't value their customers time, their brand or reputation by continuing to sell shoes they know to be defective. Very, very disappointing.

On Orthotic styles, sometimes the squeak can be caused by the removable footbed. Typically, some talcum powder under the insole eliminates the noise.

Stylish orthotic shoe

Good looking shoe. Does not have the "clunky" appearance of other orthotic shoes. Would like it better if it was a little lighter in weight.
