Fifth Avenue Cap-Toe Oxford
PostedDecember 30, 2020
I ordered (3 pair) the same size as the Johnston and Murphy Aldrich ll I had been wearing for years. The styling of the Fifth Ave is very appealing and and overall similar to Johnston and Murphy Aldrich ll. However the 65 last must be longer since I felt extra space in the toe box as well as the heel felt looser than I have been accustomed to. I did notice idiocyncracies between the shoes. With the mahogany pair, the laces of the left shoe had a wider gap when fully laced (my left foot is slightly smaller in volume than the right), and the laces of the right shoe were fully closed without any gap. It seems quality control needs to tightened up. Two pair were shipped together in one shipping box and the third was ordered after the first two arrived. The individual shipping box was destroyed by rain since it arrived without notice after dark and was subsequently rained on overnight. Neither package arrived with an invoice / receipt for the items or a return label. I would think this would be standard practice! I would be very satisfied if the fit was what I was expecting. Now I am in a quest to find socks comparable to mid-calf Gold Toe Fluffies when the company was in its heyday of the 1990s. Those socks had sufficient bulk for warmth and to minimize heel slack and adequate elasticity to stay up. Can A&E step up to the plate and make life wonderful again by creating such a sock?
Why doesn't A&E have a brick and mortar store in the southeast metropolitan area of Virginia? What a great experience it would be to walk into a store, make a selection and go home with it.

Purchased three pairs of shoes. All three were the same size, at least they were supposed to be. The Hamilton boots fit well and are very comfortable. The Fifth Avenue with the Dainite sole is a little tight. The Fifth Avenue with the leather sole is extremely tight. I have been wearing the two pairs of Fifth Avenue shoes expecting that they would break in and get more comfortable. They did some but not much. I am wearing the Hamilton boots for the first time today. There is no way that all three pairs of shoes are the same size. I would like to return the Fifth Avenue shoes for new ones that are actually the size I ordered.

Looks like the AE quality has diminished slightly.

The sole and the stitching looked like it came from the Seconds bin....
This is not my first AE purchase... I was expecting more when it came to quality and finish.
I guess they have these Christmas sales to get rid of all the stocked up seconds....
I'm truly disappointed.

As my Allisters and they don’t fit at all like them. AE obviously doesn’t know how to measure.
