A Very Fine Shoe

Prosawesome!
After returning two other other pairs of wingtips (at about 1/3 the price) because they didn't fit or the color didn't match the picture, I took the leap and bought these. I have never owned a shoe this fine. Nor have I ever paid this much for a pair of shoes, by a factor of three! It's a new experience! And it's probably the last pair of dress shoes I'll buy in my life (I'm 61). Right out of the box, the quality is obvious and very impressive. They fit perfectly, and, I have to admit, wearing a shoe of this quality and beauty is a little bit of a heady experience for a bargain-shopper like me. I didn't really care for the leather soles, though--they slip on carpet. So, I called a cobbler, and he recommended adding a thin, rubber sole to improve traction and protect the leather sole. For $25, that was a no-brainer for me. I am delighted with this awesome pair of shoes!

Prosunfonfortable, terrible value, brand name
With help from a great sales man, I was put in a size much smaller than normal but wider. A great fit.
These shoes are well contracted, very nice letter, fitting, everything is well done.
They get complements, which is really never good, but with these its' bad. Way too many people ask about them and then I have to tell people I spent an absurd amount of money on shoes. Rather embarrassing not to mention not something you want people to know about at work. I of course lie and say they were on sale and rather cheap, going out of business sale. In large part I'm embarrassed these cost more than 50 dollars.
The reason it's embarrassing to own these is two fold. They squeak to walk in. They're the most uncomfortable shoes I've owned since my mom stopped buying me shoes in grade school.
A well made pair of dress shoes should be a bit harder in the sole but otherwise on par with your tennis shoes. These are like walking around in cement boots. They're truly awful when they are squeaking the whole way down the stairs!
I cannot express how terrible these shoes are at ANY price and how their price might make them the worst purchase of my life.
At 400 bucks, you should be considering the sports you can play in them. If you are doing that, they're a 3 out of 5 min! If you don't do that, you're got a 1!

Wow! For years, I've been a proud member of the "all-I-wear-is-tennis-shoes" set, and for the momentous occasion of getting married, I decided that now's a great time to invest in some quality footwear. After hearing good things about Allen Edmonds shoes, I found myself drawn to the Strand in bourbon color. Being that I live in the state where bourbon is most synonymous, and that it's my preferred drink of choice, I couldn't have been more happier than when I found out that Nordstrom was having a sale, which allowed me to get a pair of "firsts" for less than full retail. So, undergoing the process was a bit challenging, since there's no Nordstrom here in the Louisville area (we do have a Nordstrom Rack/Outlet), but I did utilize a local department store which routinely stocks AE shoes, in order to get the proper fit and such. Unfortunately, the Nordstrom website was out of my true size when I went to order the shoes, so I sized up (1/2 a size), ponied up the cash, and one week later the UPS guy shows up to the door. I couldn't be more happy with the purchase. The color is better than advertised in person, the shoe fits well, and Nordstrom's customer service is pretty great so far. Cheers to future customers, and cheers to the shoe which will quickly become a staple in my upgraded wardrobe.
