I am a long-time fan of Allen Edmonds shoes, which are solid, mid-range shoes; the construction is good and the styles enduring. I was disappointed with this pair as the the two shoes are constructed differently from each other -- the space between the bottom eyelet and the top of the vamp is twice as large on one shoe as the other. (Please see on the attached photo.) In fact, once seen, I can't stop seeing it and will not wear them again.

Tough Time Finding Right Size

I wear a 12D in Cole Haan and Johnston & Murphy. I ordered 12D in this shoe and it was way too narrow. Then ordered 12E and it was too wide and toe box too big. I then ordered 11.5E and it feels just right. Very much appreciated Nordstrom's free shipping and easy return policy. Had it not been for that I would have given up. The shoe itself is quite stiff and I found that I had to wear them around the house several days to break them in. I really like the style and color and am looking forward to wearing them for business and dress casual. I am befuddled by the laces that came with the shoes. With the price of these shoes one would think they could provide laces that are at least long enough to tie the shoes. Like two more inches. I can barely tie them and now have to buy a pair of laces that are actually functional. I imagine someone at Allen Edmonds found they could save $0.01 per lace by cutting them shorter than is practical. Nitpicky, but frustrating and disappointing.

I tried to get them at Nordstrom but they don't keep A-Es in stock. I went to A-E store and picked them up. OUTSTANDING! It will take a few wears to break in, but not bad after first wear. Pick up shoe trees, matching brogue belt and Saphir Renovateur conditioner and you will have these babies for LIFE!
Looks great. wide cut more comfortable, especially if you have wide feet, and no effect to length size and comfort. Sole bumpy at the front end, hopefully will shape to the foot the more it is worn
