I had to give a yes or no answer for would you recommend this product to a friend. I don't know if I'd recommend this product. I may have to return it. The size is right but the crotch is too long. I'm 5!2 and needed an xtra large.
I ordered XL based upon my pants size. What a joke - couldn't even get them on. If I was the size implied by the shaper, I wouldn't need a shaper!

I love Spanx but this one didn't do anything. It didn't slim me at all.

Prosworth it
I'm a size 16, hourglass shape, 5'8" and I got the size XL in this shaper. It stays up throuh all my movements, doesn't make a thigh squeeze line, and doesn't have seams that show. It needs a little wiggling at the hip level when putting it on, then up it goes - be patient. It's not binding feeling, but smoothing. I definitely look better and feel more confident with it on. It's best for skirts and dresses (shorts?).
