Complimentary
PostedAugust 3, 2011
I bought the Benton Chili colored dress shoes to go with a new summer khaki suit. I have really enjoyed the shoes and have received many complimentary comments on the shoes when I wear them with the suit or with other light colored dress or casual slacks.

Brilliant everyday shoe
PostedAugust 1, 2011
I received a pair of Bentons as a hand me down from my father - he had purchased them a month before, but found that they irritated his feet due to a badly healed broken toe. Lucky me!
The quality of the leather is very good, and is easily brought to a beautiful mirror-finish shine. I believe this to an important feature in a shoe that is relatively unassuming (by comparison to a full brogue). The leather has not creased undesirably, and instead seems to have formed to the contours of my foot creating a "wave" effect.
Having worn the shoes 4-5 times a week, I've felt them nothing but comfortable, although they do run a little slim towards the toes (I have a wide foot and typically wear an E, the pair I have is regular width though).
Some people would despair against the rubber sole, though in my experience living in London, it is endlessly practical for wet weather, easier on the feet, and contributes overall to the life of the shoe. The only downside (and the upside in wet weather) is that the rubber sole doesn't allow the foot to breath as much.
Overall it is a good quality everyday shoe that has survived the wear and tear of rain and shine. They are certainly my workhorses and are usually my preference for day to day activities over my Church's and Cheaneys.

A good-looking shoe, great for walking
PostedJuly 29, 2011
This is a nice-looking shoe, with a grippy rubber sole, which is important for me, because I walk on city sidewalks every day, in all weather. I have it in the burnished chili color, which is a nice soft leather, with a fair amount of visual character. I like the blucher construction, as well as the punched captoe (quarter brogue) styling.
This shoe is made with a removable foam insole, to allow the use of orthotics. I use the included insole, but had to cut out the arch supports, because they were too far forward (this is the only reason I do not give the shoe five stars). The rounded toe is nicely wide in the toe box, which is also fairly tall. I wear this shoe in a 9 E, and most of my other shoes in a 9 1/2 D.
Pros:
Very nice burnishing in the chili color
Suit-appropriate for most occasions
Great traction and cushioning
Excellent craftsmanship and durability
Fairly roomy in the toe box
Good fit in the heel
Recraftable
Cons:
Arch support in insole too far forward (I had to cut out the arch support with scissors, because it was up under the ball of my foot)
VIP rubber sole looks noticeably rubbery next to welt
A small gap has developed between welt and sole at front of shoe, where I tend to kick things (not the shoe's fault; it just responds to the pounding differently than a leather sole would)

Need a shoe to accomodate an orthotic plus 13 B foot this is a winner.

This shoe is stylish for multiple occasions. People are never aware of its orthotic aspect.
