A great, versatile shoe
PostedAugust 4, 2011
The Shelton is the most versatile Allen Edmonds shoe that I own. I opted for the walnut/brown combination-- the brown is light enough that it can go with summer styles but it can also be worn well into the winter months. It's a great dressy casual shoe that I can even wear without socks for a great summer look. The cork footbed, like my other AE shoes, ensures that it fits like a glove-- it is one of the best fitting and most comfortable pair of shoes that I own.

The Shelton is a 5-eyelet balmoral saddle shoe, which possesses handsome lines that emit 1950s charm. I am a Cobbler Club member and have purchased 3 pair of Sheltons over the last 13 years.
My second pair of Sheltons is the pinnacle of my 45-pair Allen Edmonds collection. I asked AE to customize my Sheltons using black sharkskin for the base and black ostrich on the saddle. The sharkskin leather is extremely durable with the ostrich absolutely exquisite. The sharkskin presents ocean wave ridges that repel moisture in the most torrid winter conditions. The durable leather holds a semi-gloss shine with alternating shades of veneer in conservative style. The Ostrich is high-gloss in appearance with an overlay of prominent follicles and slight wrinkle providing luxurious atmosphere.
Range of use is extensive as Shelton footwear compliments both a custom suit and corduroy slacks. My ultimate ensemble is black corduroy slacks supporting an ivory mock turtleneck, black leather waist-length panel jacket. My 46-millimeter Pilot watch on black shark strap provides the final accent to this ensemble. This combination provides serious atmosphere for any frosty Saturday afternoon.
The Shelton is structured using the 5 last. It provides a very comfortable fit beginning with a rounded toe that proceeds back across the bridge of the foot. The vamp leaves adequate room to flex and extend each step of my busy day. The instep runs comfortably snug before wrapping around my heel for the perfect fit.
I would recommend the Shelton in any leather or suede for the conservative man, who enjoys dapper style. Without reservation, the Shelton is my AE shoe of choice.

My "Sheltons".

This is the first of 5 Allen Edmonds shoes that I have owned. This shoe still looks great after 24 years and gives me a sense of pride when I wear them. My choice was black/black( not offered now) because its leather sheen was dressy enough for a tux as well as sporty enough( with the saddle) to go with navy blazer/ gray trousers. I just enjoy wearing them.
My last purchase was a walnut/brown Shelton.
