I read a few reviews of this foundation on another website and decided to give it a try through Nordstrom since I would get rewards points with my purchase. I visited a counter, was given a sample, and ordered it the next day.
I really love this foundation. It's very lightweight in texture, but covers well and looks natural. It's an octinoxate-based product, similar to Armani Maestro, but I find this does what I wish Maestro could do. I'm a shade 3, and it might be a little on the light side for my summer color, but works well as my tan is fading, and can always be made darker. For reference, I'm about an NC37 in MAC. This foundation applies like a dream, gives me a matte, yet dewey frinish (yes, I'm aware that's a bit of an oxymoron, but I don't know quite how else to describe it), and lasts well throughout the day. Powder can be added, but isn't necessary. Works well with both fingers and a brush. The fragrance is a bit powdery, but doesn't bother me too much. If you are super sensitive to smell, however, you might try this in person first. Hasn't caused any breakouts, but I don't have particularly sensitive skin. Doesn't exacerbate my dry patches though, which is a plus. Of the higher end foundations I've tried (Armani, Chanel, D&G, Dior, YSL etc.) this is one of my favorites.
Normally, when I read companies' descriptions of their foundations or tinted moisturizers, I laugh, because there is usually no relationship between the "gloriosity" of the description and the reality of the product itself.
This Guerlain product is different. It is the most beautiful foundation I have used in my 45 years of wearing makeup. For me, the product description is accurate. I am in my 60's with dry/combination skin, some sun damage. I always use serum and moisturizer underneath any makeup products.
This product goes on easily with fingers, brush or sponges, is very sheer, very light weight, evens out everything - so smooth looking. It looks and feels like my skin instead of a mask.
It does not settle into my wrinkles, it does not get greasy or shiny during the day and it has never oxidized.
Both powder and cream versions of highlighters, bronzers and blush work well with this foundation.
I look so much younger when wearing it. I hope Guerlain continues to make it always. Finally, after all these years, my Holy Grail foundation.
I tried almost all the foundation that are out in the market, from MUFE (HD and Mat velvet), Bobbi brown (skin foundation), YSL (touche eclat), Giorgio Armani (Maestro, luminous silk), Lancome Teint miracle, Hourglass immaculate, and anything else that people said were amazing.
I have combination skin, with some hyperpigmentations and pores, and is very prone to breakouts. (both Armanis' broke me out badly).
This foundation is very comparable to the YSL touche eclat, but a bit runnier. Its better than the YSL in that its more illuminating and sheer, while hiding the pores really well. (yes although its thinner in texture, it hides the pores better) the coverage is about the same. sheer but buildable to medium.
However, I took out a star because it does darken. when I first put it on, its a super pretty light color that is radiant. BUT throughout the day, it becomes a darker color that matches my skin tone, and it loses the radiance.. it becomes pretty dull... (it's power to cover uneven skin tone remain in place throughout about 6 hour mark)
