I've been ogling these boots for some time and have probably read over 100 reviews - a few mentioning QA issues. However, I finally decided to take the plunge with another company that was offering a discount. I was so excited to receive the boot, only to be totally disappointed with the quality. The leather on the shaft was horrible and so was the burnishing. In no way should these boots have passed QA.
Although the boots were quite snug in the footbed (I have a fairly wide foot) they did fit my 18 inch calf. But, back they went! I loved them so much I decided to check Nordstrom to see if they were in stock and ordered them. The boots I received were absolutely gorgeous - excellent quality that is true to the Frye name - and they fit great right out of the box! I have not worn them outside yet, but will continue to wear them around the house until the snow clears to make sure they are well broken in.
So, If you are on the fence about purchasing this boot, take the plunge, they are gorgeous and well worth the price. You may be lucky to get it right the first time.

I love my boots! They are so comfortable. I ordered the brown and it goes with everything! I absolutely want the black now too!

This boot was way too big even for wide calf. It was too slouchy and sloppy. It is being returned.
