When I received my kit from The Art of Shaving I will admit that my initial thoughts were not favorable to the idea of switching from my electric shaver to a manual razor. I was happy for many years with my electric, or so I thought I was.
The issue I've had with manual shavers is that I've always thought they weren't smooth enough on my skin and so I preferred electric to keep things dry. Well, with the oil to start and the shaving cream mixing in, I felt a very smooth feeling on my skin. I was very impressed. The whole shaving experience only took a few minutes as well. Something I had thought would take "much longer" than my electric did not, another concern dashed.
Lastly, I noticed that the closeness of the shave was incomparable, The Art of Shaving experience gave a closeness I haven't been accustomed to. I even noticed that my neck hairs didn't pull on my shirt simply because they weren't long enough to catch!
Bottom line, I'm a convert! Thank you The Art of Shaving!

I am amazed at how good the preshave oil works. i can feel the difference. I love this close shave that i am getting. The whole kit is well worth it. and everytime i shave i feel so cool when i use the brush on my face, old school style.

The more I use it I notice that the razor get "gunked" up easily. Not sure which part of the kit is causing it or if I just have too cheap of a razor.

The Art of Shaving, not for me.

I was very excited to try this shaving kit out. Off the bat though, it was a pain to get the parts out of the box. The fit was super snug and they glued it in on top of that. Not a great start. When I applied the oil for the first step, it was pretty messy. Like putting motor oil on your face. It makes the hairs stick to the blade with such determination it's impossible to clean them off. It did make the blade slide smooth though. I'll give them that. The shaving cream was just fine. The brush I am still on the fence about. My hair is pretty tough so I don't think it made much of a difference. Now onto the after shave. I did not like how my skin felt sticky, hours later. I like an after shave to get soaked in and not leave a residue on my face. In conclusion, this kit is not for me, especially at this price point, but its a great effort at trying to tame this hairy beast.
