review of art of shaving classic kit
PostedJune 30, 2014
First off the packaging of The Art of Shaving kit is amazing. The box really supports the quality of the product.I also am in favor of the badger hair brush I got to hand it to you there best thing ever. Something I would like to suggest is add a kit with a razor in an it would be 5 stars

Loved it from the moment I opened the box

The box was setup perfectly so that I could enjoy the whole smorgasbord of products that I was about to use on my face to get that one thing I had been missing -- the perfect shave. Four different products -- pre-shave oil, shaving cream, shaving brush, and aftershave balm -- that were big enough to use for a good long time.
I opened the pre-shave oil first. Nice and thick. I applied it to my face. Taking in the scents... None. Exactly what I wanted. No smell was perfect for me.
I took out the shaving cream and brush next. Lots of shaving cream in this container. Don't let the big container fool you into thinking that it takes a lot. The brush delightfully took some cream from the container and applied liberally to my face. Lots of cream in all the right places. Taking in the scents again.... Thankfully, still none.
Now for the razor test. I took my Mach 3 razor and it glided through the shaving cream. Some did want to stay on the razor with each stroke, but a little bit more vigor when in the water got it right out. Seems like a closer shave than with my normal shaving cream.
Now for the after-shave balm. No muss. Just a little dab of it. Works perfectly without a lot of cleaning afterwards.
This is the perfect shave.

Nostalgia and Confidence
PostedJune 30, 2014
When I was very young I used to watch my grandfather shave early on Saturday mornings. He was methodical, tracing the lines of his face with safety razor, while steam rose from the sink. He had a brush and a mug with soap on the bottom he would work into a rich lather. When he was finished he would declare himself presentable, and ready for the day. Then he would smile and chuckle under his breath and we would go read the paper. I had all but forgot this memory until recently.
To say I was skeptical of the kit would be an understatement. I'm not normally into luxury products, and make no mistake, this kit is definitely a luxury product. I read through the recommended process and scoffed, soften, oil, lather (with Badger hair?!), shave, rinse, balm. It seemed like I was taking a task I didn't really like to do and just lengthening it. Shaving was supposed to be quick. Shaving left your skin raised and irritated, but at least free of hair, only to repeat the battle a few days later. Shaving was so annoying that I frequently grew a beard just to avoid it.
The kit recommended shaving after a shower, so I followed the instructions. I started by letting the badger hair brush soak in hot water while I showered. When I was done the brush was soft and supple. The first time I used the oil I made a mistake, a little bit of this goes a long way. I rubbed the oil into my skin and started thinking about the lathering.
The cream also is a bit deceiving, I'm used to normal shave gel, which is thin, and does not create a rich lather. The cream in the art of shaving kit only requires a little dab to create a rich thick lather that seems to really spread well.
Finally it came to the shave. I currently use a Gillette pro fusion razor, and while it is a decent razor, I'm frequently left with a slight razor burn. After using the oil, the cream I started shaving. The first thing I noticed was the glide. The razors blades flew across my face, no irritation, no bumps! I continued to shave and found the experience for the first time not just less burdensome, but enjoyable!
When I had finally removed most of the cream, I remembered something else the kit had recommended, try shaving against the grain. This seemed unreasonable before I started so I had dismissed it, but I gave it a try and lo and behold no scratches! No burn!
I washed my face and applied the unscented balm. I looked in the mirror and noticed two things. My skin looked healthy, not bumpy. And I felt more confident. I caught myself thinking of my Pap who I had not thought of in years, and remember the rare smile after he shaved.
Thats when it hit me. There was something lost between his generation and mine, when shaving was turned from a ritual into a task to be completed as quick as possible. If shaving gel is fast food, then this kit is a 4 star meal.
I'm converted. I look forward to shaving now, I'm going to try a safety razor next. I will be purchasing these kits as presents for male friends, and hope that they can find as much joy in them as I did.

ART OF SHAVING KIT, SIMPLE AND SEXY SKIN!
PostedJune 30, 2014
This kit is awesome. It left my face smooth and after shave bump free! The only thing I would like is if the awesome lather brush didn't have a smell once it was wet. Maybe if there was a nice scent in the shave cream, you wouldn't notice the brush so much. Otherwise, this would make a fab gift for any guy! Especially ones that don't like shaving often due to skin irritation. I was finding myself making up reasons to lather up and shave, even when there was barely any stubble.
