Great shoe - great look - poor quality

I really liked the look of these shoes when I first saw them. The red laces were also eye-catching. When the shoes arrived - they had brown laces, and looked a little more rough-hewn than I expected.
I have had these shoes for 10 months - and really enjoy wearing them. Very comfortable and relaxed. While walking about a week ago, I realized the entire seam of stitching had separated from the sole. I was quite surprised as I've only worn these chukka boots 10 times.
I'm disappointed at the overall quality of these shoes - not what I expect from Cole Haan at all. I have returned them - and based on other reviews, will not replace this pair.

I'm now returning my second pair.
The first pair developed a separation between the two leather plies of the sole, all around the front of the shoe. I was worried they'd continue to separate, so I returned them and bought another pair.
The second pair fit a little different then the first. The left shoe is a bit narrower on this pair, making my toes hurt toward the end of the day. And now the rubber heel is half peeled off.
I ordered a third pair to replace these, but there's brown paint from the upper smeared a bit onto the edge of the sole.
I really want to like these shoes -- they're soft and comfortable, with very little "support", which suits my flat feet quite well. They hold really well through the heel and vamp, while still having good width at the ball of the foot. I like that they're not super cushy, though they do have some padding.
The calfskin uppers look to be suede or split hide, and then painted with brown paint, which gives them a bit of an antiqued look. Both the appearance and the supple fit break in quite well. The rubber sole pads have good traction, while looking quite smart in red. The laces, while initially quite stiff and rough, also break in nicely.
I haven't decided whether to keep the third pair, but I wouldn't buy these from anyone without a generous return policy. (They seem to be a Nordstrom exclusive anyway.) Perhaps third time is the charm?

Good pair of Fall/Spring boots

If you are trying to get away from the ubiquitous Clark desert boot, then this is the direction that you want to head.First, the red laces. If you want to standout keep those laces on - they look cool as heck. Second, the leather used has a nice weather tone. Three, they don't look like anything else. People will know that you have a different pair of boots on your feet than that compared to the rest of society.
The only downside to these boots was a little after a year a small tear emerged by my pinky toe. But, hey, I guess that it added further to the character of the boot.
It should be know that there is little to no texture on the bottom of the shoe. So, if you do trek out in these on a cold winter night, watch out for ice - you will, most certainly, fall.

I purchased these shoes for my husband and he is a big fan. They are stylish, comfortable, and really look great.
