Poor fit compared to other AE shoes
PostedApril 10, 2013
I wear a 12D in Park aves and Strands. They have always fit perfectly and been the most comfortable shoes I've owned. I really wanted these and the 12's were so loose in the heel that my foot came right out. I tried on the 11.5D and it fit much better. I may have been blind because I loved the shoes so much but after wearing them for a week the fit is just not good. It's too narrow in the front and still too loose in the heel. I wish they would fit like the others but sadly they don't and they are extremely uncomfortable after wearing for a whole day. Although I do still get compliments on how they look.

If I ruled the world...

...it would be in this shoe. However, I do not, but I still feel like a million bucks when wearing the black Mctavish. It amazes me that a shoe with such a substantial leather sole can feel so light on the foot. It is exceptionally supportive, and the combination of support and comfort is unlike anything I've experienced in footwear before. This is my second pair of AEs, and they are more comfortable than the Cliftons. I just returned from an event where I was Mc-standing for 5 hours, and I feel like I could stand for another 5. And as for looks, this shoe knocks it out of the park - in either jeans or a slim silhouette trouser, it works. No regrets, order it one-half size smaller than your normal AE size. I wear 9.5 in Nike running shoes, 9D in the AE Clifton, and 8.5D in the the McTavish.

Ideal All Purpose Shoe
PostedMarch 3, 2013
Past 6 months have been renewing my wardrobe, including shoes. Needed a pair of cross-over "dark-jean" and "suit" shoes. The McTavish was the one. Contrast stitching makes it dressy/casual and I wear it with a solid, dark suit (no tie) or jeans sweater/shirt. Many compliments!
I ALWAYS purchase the suggested matching belt when I buy A-E shoes.
I bought one size down from regular street shoe, as last is both wide and long. It's still a bit big and with all A-E shoes, needed break-in time. Based on my Strand shoe, this is about 6-9 months of 2-3x/week wearing, and then it's like a glove on your foot!
Also love the casual style of the laces, which I've changed color for a twist. It's very subtle, but nice!

Beautiful, unique style

Bought this in black because I love the contrast stitching. Like other #5 last shoes, it does run long (I bought a half-size down from my usual size). If you have wider feet, sizing this last could be challenging, and you may have better luck visiting an AE store. (That was true for me.) It's a great looking casual shoe and I would definitely buy it again.
