This shoe is very flexible. I have multiple colors of shoelaces that make the shoes fun to wear. I have 11 pair of Allen Edmonds and my 12th pair is on order.. New Custom Webgems...

Grown man shoes

I bought these, my first pair 02/12. I have been looking forward to buy a pair of AEs for atleast ten years. To me the McTavish are the epitome of a grown man AE shoe. So when I first bought them I thought I made a huge mistake. They were very heavy, stiff and slippery. However, I stuck with them and wore them once a week for about 3 months. Now they are more comfortable than slippers. I love them and they are worth every penny. I have subsequently bought 5 more pair, but these are still my very favorite pair. Buy them and stick with them and you wont be sorry. Terp in Milwaukee

This is my first pair of Allen Edmonds and I am surprised that the shoe is still very uncomfortable to wear. The fit was proper, no issues there. I purchased the shoe when the style was first introduced (18 months + -), and well before all of the other shoe manufacturers starting copying this style.
I thought it was just a break-in period, however every time I put the shoes on, by late morning or mid-day my feet hurt. I have tried wearing a little heavier sock, but that does not offset the comfort.
I am disappointed because I really like the shoe, the style, its casual but dressy. I no longer wear a suit/sport coat, or business casual, in fact I wear jeans in 'wine country' and like the wing tip look.
I have 4 pair of Ferragamo, 3 dress and one a casual-dress, and off the shelf I was able to walk all day. Other than there style, which is not current...I can still wear them.
All said, I remain tempted to purchase another pair of Allen Edmonds, because they are American made, and the quality.
