Great shoes, with one exception

I'd been eyeing the McTavish as my first pair of Allen Edmonds for a long time, and finally bought them. Service at their downtown San Francisco location was excellent. They've broken in exactly how they described, and the uppers have been easy to care for.
However, the rubber on the heel is made from a very poor quality material. It's soft, and I'm constantly picking out small pebbles and particles that get stuck in it. An unfortunately timed step took a chunk out of the edge, and is speeding up the wearing process. While the rest of the shoe is great, it's frustrating to be replacing the heer rubber after only a few months.

I cannot stress enough how much I love these shoes. They fit me better than any other AE shoe I own. Shortly after buying, I spent all day (about 11 hours) running around, doing errands and hanging out with friends - soooo much walking. My feet never felt uncomfortable. I own the natural wax pair and I find they are great casually with chinos or jeans but can also give a fun pop to more formal wear. This is a must buy.

Unbelievable. I ordered this shoe via my retailer, sight unseen. Simply the best looking shoes I currently own and by far the most comfortable shoe I have ever owned. My feet are very, very happ.
Have received numerous compliments wearing this shoe with jeans. I am purchasing another pair.

The black McTavish is my first pair of AE. I was fitted at the Reston, VA to ensure a proper fit. Ever since day one, I have been an enthusiastic spokesperson for these shoes and AE. As a chiropractic physician, I am on my feet all day on a poorly cushioned floor. The high quality is evident in that I never have foot or leg fatigue after wearing them. The shoes mold quickly, have a short break in period, and provide ample support. In your hand they are quiet heavy, but on your feet barely noticeable.
I routinely get compliments on aesthetics of these shoes, The beauty and quality craftsmanship is evident even to those who don't routinely focus on shoes. The detail is amazing and even more beautiful in person.
The black McTavish is an excellent all around shoe. I have paired them with jeans for a night out and even wore them in my wedding. I highly recommend.
