An amazing dress boot!

I'm no stranger to high-end men's shoes and the Fifth Street boot is my first AE purchase. Shoe style rather than brand drives my purchases. In the case of AE, the Fifth Streets were exactly what I was looking for. I have no idea why but very few shoe makers put out oxford (balmoral) style ankle boots. Am I the only dude that likes dress boots?!
I have the Fifth Street in both black and burnished brown and they're both kind of amazing. I especially love the burnishing on the brown model.
The shape is just right for me, not too pointy but not too round; just right! This shoe is on the 5-last, which is tricky to fit properly and definitely NOT true to size. The general consensus with the 5-last is to go down a half size and up one in width. In my case, I'm an 8D as measured by the Brannock device. The 8D on the 5-last was too narrow and left too way too much room in the toes, so I sized down to a 7.5E. PERFECT FIT. I'd like to give a special shout out to my man Julian at the 44th Street AE store for letting me try on a bunch of shoes to find the right fit. That kind of service counts for a lot!
The only thing I'd suggest is for AE to offer a Dainite sole option for the Fifth Street. Many folks (like me) prefer boots for foul weather, and a Dainite sole would be the perfect complement to a seriously tough, beautiful boot!

Amazing shoes

This was my first Allen Edmonds purchase ever in 2012. I felt compelled to write a review since I've just gotten them recrafted almost 4 years after purchase. These are hands down the greatest shoes I have ever owned. Got them back today and they are as gorgeous as the day I bought them. Because of these boots I've purchased almost a dozen more Allen Edmonds shoes. I fully intend to be wearing the black park avenues when I get married next year.
I know these shoes will last me for years to come.

Very handsome, elegant, dress boot

I'm a 20 yr customer with over a dozen AE shoes in my wardrobe. These are the first dress boots I've ever owned. I am very impressed with them. Truly comfortable and a very attractive shoe.

This product has serious quality control issues

I am very disappointed. Not what I was expecting for the price. These boots are very beautiful to look at but have some serious design and quality control issues, making them very uncomfortable. The shoe tongues were sewn incorrectly and pull to the side when you put them on, causing a lot of pain at its base. I had read about this problem and decided to buy them anyway because of other reviews. It was a big mistake. My left boot also has something under the sole causing discomfort. Even though it is not as bad as the tongue issue, it just adds up. These problems make the boots almost un-wearable. I hope they get better over time. But it shouldn’t be the case for shoes in this price range. Over all, seems like it is a 50-50 chance you will get the perfect book.
