I was excited to stop by the Allen Edmonds store and spend money on a high quality pair of stylish dress boots. I decided to make the purchase based on my experience with a pair of AE dress shoes that I had purchased four years ago and still regularly wear today. I wear a size 14 shoe and finding a stylish shoe is not easy.
Unfortunately, even though I paid a premium for the boots, the pull tab snapped off of one of them within 2 or 3 weeks. I loved the comfort, appearance (received many complements), but am very disappointed that the quality is lacking, especially in a fundamental design element (only one line of stitching across the tab). These boots fit very well, but it's impossible to get them on without the pull tabs.
I'm also disappointed in the material used in the heel of the boot. I wore the boots six or seven times and the heel started to break down. This is normal urban walking on dry paved streets.
It's frustrating as a consumer to spend real money for shoes and to have something like this happen. I buy American because I want quality and don't mind spending the money because this purchase is supporting an American company and U.S. based workers. Please make this right.

Perfect Fall Boots

Today standing in Union Square, a couple of people came and asked me about the boots, and this thing happens often. Classic and not too stylish, which is perfect, I love the burnished walnut color and it gives a good deep shine. AE shoes in general have rather low heels, so your feet more comfortable and styles classic. Hold your ankle tight but not uncomfortable. AE service always excellent so far.
Can't believe they lower the price rather dramatically. I had AE fever and bought many pairs, but these are the ones that you should keep, totally versatile!

Falling apart in less than a week of use

I've coveted the Dalton boot for quite some time and was elated upon receiving a pair from my wife last week for our anniversary. I wore them over the weekend at a board meeting and reception and was 100% impressed. Cut to this morning when I was unpacking and noticed that the heel on the left boot has already started to pull away. I suppose I will have to go to my cobbler to see what can be done to avoid any further issues. What a bummer, I've purchased a few AE shoes prior to this and have always been impressed only to have an issue with the pair that I've always desired.

An extremely versatile, very attractive, high quality boot!

After wearing my walnut calf Daltons for about a year and a half, I sent them in for recrafting. I was a bit wary of spending the money to have them recrafted because they were pretty beat up -- I had worn them a TON. I just got them back from the factory two days ago and was stunned to fined them looking almost new! The re-stretched uppers are free of many of the wrinkles they went in with and the new soles are beautiful. I have no doubt I will get another year and a half out of the shoes -- longer if I actually care for them this time around. I'm hopeful that they can be recrafted a second time in the future. I absolutely love these gorgeous shoes; I have worn them with everything from suits to jeans -- and when I am out and about, I get completely unsolicited compliments on them from stylish passersby to boot! (See what I did there?) Also, a word on comfort -- I don't think these took an inordinately long time to break in at all -- only a couple of weeks. Ater that, they are very comfortable. I have walked miles in them here in Chicago and my feet never complained.
