Just won't break in

I am a long time AE customer, and current owner of 15 pair. I know that it takes time for break-in on some styles, so I gave this pair the benefit of doubt despite the initial discomfort. After owning for about 6 months, I notice that this pair gets worn less and less because of the continuing pain in both soles after wearing for 6-8 hrs. I wear these less than once per month now. My recently purchased New Orleans and Broadstreet webgems have been great, requiring almost no break-in period with the customary AE comfort. I wish that I could say the same for these Patriots. I also notice that the leather quality on these loafers does not seem to match the quality of other AE lace-ups that I have owned.

A LITTLE TIGHT

These Patriots are my first ever AE purchase. I got two pairs, black and merlot, and have been happy with the look. The black pair fits perfectly. No tightness or squeak as others have discussed in their comments. The merlot pair is quite a bit tighter however. If I don't have a shoe horn, I can't get them on. It's only been a couple of weeks, so I am going to give it some time to see if they break in, but I do see that others have had issues with vamp tightness as well. I like the clean lines of the Patriot, so if someone has a recommendation of an AE shoe they like better, I am all ears.

Squeaks

I have loud squeaks in both heels. Initially I thought it can't be a defect because both do it and maybe it will go away. Well to read the other reviews on this shoe I now know I am not alone. And similar to other reviews I love the look and lines of the shoe. I have not purchased a loafer style shoe for many years and looked forward to an AE pair. Will rethink this now in the future.

Product is very poor

I have 14 pairs of AE shoes in my closet, and all are great to excellent, except for this pair, which I bought in February 2013. These shoes are terrible.
