AE finally understands the American foot.

I recently bought a pair of the Patriot after several run ins with the Park Avenue, Manchester, and Strand. All three just named were beautiful out of the box, but on the front, they were too tight but just enough were a wide would've rendered them useless. The type of leather AE typically uses doesn't give much. The Patriots were a perfect fit with its wider toe box and wider heel space. The wear has been wonderful and the leather has conformed around my foot like glove tanned leather. I'm please with AE on this one. Nice work, boys.

Great looking shoe, takes a bit of time to break in

Of all the Allen Edmonds loafers, this is the best looking one.
When I tried it on in the store it fit beautifully. But let me caution you that it takes about ten wearings to break in. Once broken in, it fits beautifully. For me in the beginning, the top of the shoe was a bit tight and it pinched a bit near the broadest part of my foot.
Now however, it fits very well. Most loafers actually lose their shapes even with shoe trees and I end up swimming in them after about a year. These are snug and the tightness at the top eventually becomes just snug. That means my foot does not come out of my shoe when I am running to catch the subway or in the airport.
But by far the best feature of the this shoe is that it is very handsome and versatile. Can wear to the office, Saturday afternoon parties or to the movies.

Great looking shoe with one huge defect

I ordered a pair of the AE Patriot loafers from my local AE outlet. I was disappointed to find that the pair I originally ordered had a disconcerting squeak coming from the heel counter.
Based on my concerns about the heel squeak, AE was good enough to replace the shoes even though I had worn them several times. Alas, the heel squeak has remained. I have continued to wear the shoe in the hopes that the squeak would gradually be worn away, but it has remained.
I love the design and leather on this shoe. I am disappointed in the embarrassingly loud squeak, though, which almost makes this shoe unwearable in my quiet office environment. It is plastic-y sounding and really takes away from an otherwise nice product.
Wonderful customer service, but an apparently bad run of this product. I notice more recent reviews do not complain of the pernicious squeak and hope this issue has been resolved by Allen Edmonds. Be sure to thoroughly evaluate your pair of Patriots if you are going to purchase.

The most outstanding fit, style and comfort of all the AE loafers...

I must have tried on at least four AE loafers today - Cavanaugh, Kenwood, Patriot, etc. I did not intend to buy, just try them on for size for a future purchase. This is the first AE purchase I have ever made. Usually it is Paul Stuart or Cole Haan.
The Patriot fit was incredible. The other AE loafers slipped off my heel, but the Patriot fit perfectly. Not too tight, but comfortable.
And they are terrific looking. The tongue is the perfect length, and the shape and style of the uppers is absolutely classic - not a chunky "beef roll" but a smooth surface... the toe is not too boxy, and not too pointed - very well styled proportions.
Having said that, you have to try on all the loafers - there are about four styles that look like the Patriot. Some are slightly longer, wider, have a wider heel, etc. You've got to try them on until you find the one that fits well, or else you will be disappointed. If you love the Patriot, you might not like the Cavanaugh or vice-versa. I was told each has a different last.
Appearance-wise they are close. So whatever you buy will not disappoint.
So far so good... if this shoe continues to deliver outstanding comfort over time, AE has me as a lifetime customer. I bought them in Westport Connecticut and the saleswoman - "KIM" was outstanding.... not pushy and very patient... that is what you want in a salesperson.
