First AE disappointment in 30 years

For 30 years, all I ever worn for work are AE shoes. These shoes are beautiful, so I was excited to receive my pair of 13 Bs. The shoes are the correct length with plenty of room left after the end of my toe. But for some reason, my right foot feels like it is in a vice. There seems to be a problem with the height of the toe box. The store manager was extremely helpful and recommended tounge pads to help with the fit. That seemed to help in the store so I took them home and decided to wear them to work yesterday. It turned out to be the most uncomfortable day I have ever spent in a pair of AE shoes. I am extremely disappointed, not only because these are terrific looking shoes, but because the store manager was so kind and helpful that I'm now reluctant to try to exchange or return them since I have worn them outside. I guess one failure in 30 years isn't bad, but I paid good money for these and I'm not sure they will ever be wearable.

Great pair of shoes but very difficult to break in

I've been a longtime fan of AE, and recently purchased this shoe in both brown and black. I love the look of the shoe, and feel the quality is still solid, but they have been extremely difficult to break in. The middle of the shoe where your foot rests between the sole the tongue of the shoes, just doesn't seem tall enough and has very little give. My hope is this will eventually improve, but after 3 weeks of wearing daily they are still very stiff.
Have had a success with a number of previous styles, so holding out hope.

Find a different loafer to buy.

I purchased my brown Patriots last summer and have yet to feel like they have broken-in at all and the quality is questionable at best. When I first found the Patriots I was fairly excited that I had found a good looking, simple penny loafer that came in widths. After visiting the website a few times and shopping in-store, I purchased a pair and have been disappointed ever since. At first I thought they were just made of very stiff leather and they would soften, but have since realized that is never going to happen. For the first 4 months there was a horrible squeak every time I took a step with my right foot and recently the rubber sole piece on the left heal began to fall off. Keep shopping...

Since my first review of a year ago, it is a pleasure to report that my Patriots have become even more comfortable and have taken on lovely patina. A wonderful shoe from a great company. Thanks to AE.
