I have been putting off this review for a long time now believing that somehow this shoe is going to perform like the rest of my AE lineup. Truth is it just doesn't compare in quality and comfort to any of my others. The fit in the toe area feels wide while the heal feels narrow. For someone that wears a B width this sounds like it wouldn't be a problem, but with this shoe it is. I also have to add that the footbed is also uncomfortable so much so that I am no longer wearing them. If you are a fan of AE I would recommend sticking to a shoe with a better track record.

Should've trusted myself, not the sales guy

I purchased a pair of a Patriots last fall at the AE store in San Francisco. Tried on an 11D (my typical AE size) and they seemed a little large. The salesman suggested I size down a half size. The 10.5s fit perfectly front to back, but were tight on the top of my foot. The sales guy said they would stretch a bit, so I bought them. I love the look ... I'm not typically a penny loafer guy, but these are all-purpose great looking loafers. The problem is, they are "leave in the office and wear there only" shoes. Can't walk more than a quarter-mile in them without my feet killing me. In fairness, I've only worn them 5-6 times because they pinch my feet. Next step is to take them to a shoe stretcher and see if that works ... Will trust my gut next time, these would be a great everyday shoe!

Excellent "Every Day" Loafer

I bought a pair of these loafers in black to use as an every day replacement for oxford dress shoes (business casual environment). These are very well made, comfortable shoes that I can wear to work or on weekends with chinos or jeans.
I still wear my Park Avenues for dressier occasions; however, the Patriots will remain a staple in my closet for a long time. I plan to purchase a few additional pairs of Patriots in other colors.
No complaints about the fit or any other aspect of these shoes - overall an excellent shoe!

The mixed reviews for this shoe were troubling, but I was looking for a loafer to bridge from business to business casual and this was the best option. I have only had the shoe a week, but it fit great out of the box and has been comfortable from day one. I have several pair of AE shoes, but this was my first dress loafer/slip and the fit was consistent with my other AE oxfords.
Based on the reviews there seems to be an inconsistency in the product. However, given the generous return policy on AE I think these are worth trying. I am very satisfied.
