Good materials, but poor design
PostedJanuary 31, 2020
The good:
-The materials are good
-The leather is nice
- goodyear welted
- the Extralight sole is very soft and cushioned
The Bad:
-The fit is very poor and continues to get worse as you wear them
so the good is that when I got the boot they seemed to be very soft and well lined, the leather is very nice and they are extremely lightweight. I noticed they were a bit narrow for a standard width shoe, but assumed they would break in. So I went about my day and wore them.
I've had them for a couple of months now and they continue to get more and more uncomfortable, they haven't broke in appropriately at all. The bad aspects of this boot have started to come to light.
As they have broken in, and stretched a little by my pinky toe, they have exposed the interior stitching as its stretched slightly so there is a constant feeling of stitching on my foot (I have a borderline narrow foot and this is still happening). Maybe you are thinking, well they might be too small? Not a chance, my toes don't come anywhere close to the toe of the boot and I ordered a half size down from my natural size. The other and biggest problem in my opinion is that the heel cup is not a heel cup at all and this has really created an issue. The heel and shaft of the boot run in a nearly vertical line which ultimately means that no matter how tight you make the boot, your heel will slip a small amount. Depending on your socks this can really wreak havoc with your heels, in addition, this has already started to cause the lining of the boot to show abrasion and wear. The laces also do not help, because the way they are laid out means it will tighten your foot down to the footbed but not to the back of the boot (because of the heel cup issue) It's like the boot was designed by somebody that was having a foot and ankle explained to them over the phone.
All that being said, the craftsmanship is good and materials are top notch as I have found with Allen Edmonds shoes in general, but the design of these boots just doesn't work very well at all unfortunately, because they are nice to look at.

Sharp boot, terribly uncomfortable
PostedJanuary 28, 2020
This boot looks great, but at the base of the tongue of the boot there is a very thick piece of leather that jabbed into the front of foot (where my foot meets my ankle). It was too painful to wear so I had to return them. Disappointed, as the boot looked great.

Great boot. Was Skeptical.

Old fat man, had trouble lacing up this boot.
The longer I wore them, the better I became at lacing them up.
Now I wouldn't part with them. So many compliments. Such a stable platform for a wobbly man.
Winter snow slush and ice, This boot gives me the needed foundation to ambulate safely.
I read the bad reviews, was nervous. After wearing them ,they are keepers.
My other dress shoes are also A&E circa 1990.
These at present are on par with my 3 decade old shoes.
