Been researching for so long until I finally decided to try on a raw denim for the first time. The famous size down 2 advice definitely worked out well for me. I wear 30 in j crew chinos and 28 in PNS fit pretty good. At first, it was hard to even move but after about 2 weeks of daily wear, it has gotten at least 3 times softer.
Thanks to nordstrom, I was able to hem my jeans for free. It is known fact for raw denim to shrink after its first wash and hemming prior to wash is usually not recommended. However, I personally do not prefer the "stacking" at the bottom. Go for no break in your jeans for the clean look.
Bottom line: 2 sizes down from your normal waist size hem for "no break" clean look wear daily do not wash until the desired fade is obtained (the stiffness comes from starch applied on the jean from the factory. Stiffness is what creates the creases (honeycomb, whiskers) as it is able to fold. If you wash the jeans too early, you risk losing the starch, hence, the stiffness and your desired fade may be delayed).
I owned the Petit Standards and wore them for about 1.5 years. They were great, but stretched out way too much in the waist and knees. I sold them and tried the Petit NEW Standards. They have a much skinnier fit, especially since there is pretty extreme tapering from the knee down. I'm a 33 waist and I sized down to a 30 to account for the stretching. I was hoping the higher rise compared to the Petit Standards would be significant. But it was not. The rise is still too low for my liking, so I won't be keeping these. If you don't mind a low rise and are looking for selvedge/raw denim, def pick these up. And don't wash for at least 6 months after heavy wear!

Perfection. Everything the salesman told me about how they would fit, the size I should get was spot on. I got these in the Salt Lake City store--and they had to be ordered and shipped to me, so I didn't even get to actually try them on until they came to my home. But the salesman knew the merchandise.
Will be buying another pair soon!
