This Shoe Rocks the Boat
PostedJune 22, 2015
This is one of the coolest and eye popping shoes I've ever seen. Hands down. The Streets are a casual shoe for sure, but it will dress up your casual wear in a good way. The uppers are amazingly detailed with the pinking and perforations. I thought I may not like shoes that have perfing and pinking, but now that I see it in person, I know it will be a great shoe to wear with chinos, khakis or jeans. SUPERB.
The coolest part of the Streets for me is the wooden center heel stack and the lighter contrasting welting around the shoe. It pops right out and adds character and charm. The Dainite sole is spot on in keeping with the casual look. The black sole adds a great contrast to the lighter welting, laces and piping. The Dainite is very comfortable and does feel "like" your standing on leather (but quieter and softer). This shoe takes classy and takes it to the level of cool.
As far as sizing, I own a pair of the Park Avenues in 10.5D. The PA's fit like a glove and leave about an half inch/inch of toe space in front and less than a fingers space in the heel when my feet are all the way forward in the shoe.
The Rush Street is the same last as PA's, but you should consider the Street has a stiffer sole out of the box compared to the PA's (Dainite vs leather sole). Because of this, the Street will not bend as easily to start out. This in turn could cause more heel slippage than normal. I do think the soles are starting to break in and do loosen up. I'm wearing it around the house to start with, so you should do the same and give it time to break-in. The chromexcel leather will break in over time too. I think a shoe's heel counter tends to break in more over time too, which in turn will cause less heel slippage. For reference, my heels are on the thinner to normal side.
Another observation. If you tie a bar lacing on these Streets (laces go straight across each pair of eyelets), the shoe will not grip the top of the feet as well (for my foot shape at least), and in turn there will be more heel slippage. I thought at first the shoes were too long compared to the PA's. But then, I tied the lacing as I have on my PA's (criss-cross lacing) and the slippage was subdued greatly. Now I'm confident the shoes are not too long and fit fine just like my Park Avenues.
I hope these explanations helps someone understand some of the causes of heel slippage. It may not be the shoe is too long, but the lacing and other factors mentioned above. You don't want your feet to feel cramped and tight either so consider the above before sizing down.
One more note. The insole is padded and softer than a leather insole. I like it. The softness adds a little more comfort to me. The inner sole should conform more to your feet over time just like any of the other corked layer AE shoes.
All in all, well done AE! Please keep moving forward and design more great classic shoes like the Rush Street. This is a shoe that bucks the traditional trend with style and class.

Amazing shoes
PostedApril 21, 2015
My first pair of Allen Edmonds in chromexcel, and I gotta say they are amazing! The fit, the look, and the style all synchronize into an amazing pair of shoes that can be worn casual or formal anywhere you go.
Once your feet warm up the leather, you can expect a glove-like fit since the leather stretches so well. Because of this I suggest trying a width or length smaller than your usual size to make sure it doesn't get really loose as it breaks in.
Expect compliments on your shoes!

Versatile shoe

This has been a great shoe for me.
With the Danite sole, it's an obvious choice for those days when the streets are wet. It pairs well with jeans, khakis, or even dress pants. I have several pairs of Allen Edmonds shoes, and this one is my favorite (so far!).
I would recommend this shoe without hesitation!

Excellent, Well-Rounded Shoe
PostedMarch 13, 2015
I did a lot of research before purchasing these, so I feel out of principal I need to follow up and add to all the reviewers I read prior to purchasing.
I wear slacks and a tie to work every day. I own a number of Allen Edmonds and Alden shoes already. I was going on a business trip and tried to think of the ideal shoe to allow for "dressy enough" during the day, but also "casual enough" to wear with jeans at night after work. I also wanted something comfortable since I'd be walking a lot.
Bottom line, these were an exceptional choice. The balmoral lacing and 5 last give the shoe a dress shape that allows it to seamlessly blend with proper dress clothes. But the perforations and antiquing also give the shoe a casual flair that make it go great with jeans. The honey brown chromexcel color is just dark enough to work, but not too light, like natural chromexcel, which would make it too casual for business attire.
The Dainite sole is a huge winner and I've since bought a couple other shoes with it since I like it so much. It does not lend itself to a pure "cushiony" feel like some of the orthotic rubber soles, but it has more cushion to it than the regular single leather soles, which makes it great for all day walking.
I highly recommend these shoes.
