Proscasual
These boots felt great on and I really contemplated keeping them, but... The leather, as another reviewer mentioned, was dull and lackluster, no sheen at all. It was also VERY distressed. I ordered the cognac, and there were many black streaks in the leather, which I guess is ok if you're going for a very rugged look. I decided they could only be worn with jeans and very casual, so I sent them back. Had the leather been better looking, I would have kept them. They really fit like a glove, and the calf was nice and fitted, but not too tight. (I can see they would be too tight though for someone with larger calves.) I'll have to give Frye another chance with a different pair.
These are the second pair of Frye boots that I have purchased from Nordstrom. I purchased my first pair, the Jane in the cognac color, over five years ago, and they are still in great condition (I gallivanted abroad in them daily for four months). Frye boots are very sturdy and will last a lifetime with minimal care (you can also send them to Frye to be fixed, which I have done, and they kindly fixed my heel for free). I purchased the Jackie in black due to the more Western feel. The silver buttons with the pull-ons add a nice touch. The heel height is perfect for me; they are comfortable to walk around in for long periods of time during the day but also can be worn for a night on the town. I have had these boots for a few weeks and have worn them with skirts, dresses, and pants for casual events during the day, out at night, and at work. My only complaint is that the online picture portrays the boots as very glossy and shiny, when in fact, they are more dull black and there is little to no sheen. However, this can be fixed with a good polishing.
