Very nice shoe - but QC problems again
PostedNovember 30, 2020
I bought these shoes at a brick and mortar location. They came in the mail with a mis-punched toe medallion, inconsistent stitching, and visible drawn on outline (from where the shoe is marked to show the worker where to sew the vamp on). This is my 4th quality control issue that I've had with AE. I think it's time to go elsewhere.

Very nice new color for the Strand!
PostedMarch 13, 2020
I'm a huge fan of olive shoes, and some reading this review might know who I am. I've been begging AE to bring back the olive Strandmok. Well, I did not convince them to do that, but they did offer a brand new dark olive calf Strand. Of course I could not pass it up.
I'm not going to comment on the fit or the last, as everything is fine in that regards. I'm mostly just going to mention a little bit about the colors and feel of the shoes. The olive color is quite dark, so it's not a loud shoe like the olive Strandmok. It's much more understated, and most people probably won't even notice you're wearing a green shoe. Only those with a good eye for small details will notice.
The soles are a dark brown, and they do match the shoes well. However, I do kind of wish they had made them a lighter chili color. I don't think a buff sole edge would look ideal with this darker leather, but a lighter chili I think would look fantastic.
It's good to see AE is offering some new and interesting colors for the classic designs like the Strand.

Outstanding!
PostedJanuary 12, 2020
As a recent convert, I purchased four pairs of Allen Edmonds over the holidays, including two Greene Street Wingtips, one Boulevard Cap Toe, and this Strand Cap Toe Oxford (Cigar). I was comfortable buying the bluchers given my high instep. I was much less confident with the Strand Oxford. I thought it would fit much too tight across the vamp and laces area. My fears were unwarranted. Allow me to back up--I am a big guy with wide feet--10.5 3E. The Strand Oxfords fit like a glove, and are incredibly comfortably in every respect. I am immediately ordering another pair of Strands (black), as well as the Park Avenue and Fifth Avenue shoes based on the same 65 last. I am a huge new fan of this excellent shoe brand. BTW, I love the other shoe purchases as well, but the Strand is phenomenal!

Fine shoe undermined by too-short laces
PostedJanuary 8, 2020
When you make an expensive shoe of fine quality, why would you finish it with laces so short it's not possible to tie a double knot? I have ten pairs of AE shoes and this is the first time I've encountered such an issue. Someone wasn't thinking.
