Proselegant, well designed, good value
These shoes are a must-buy AT THE SALE PRICE if you're in the market for above-average leather lace-up oxfords. Very nice, precise brogue detailing, good quality leather, solid overall construction. It is "Made in China," since it apparently is not in the same class as Varvatos' other shoe models in the $500+ range, so beware of that. But you WOULD NOT KNOW. At the regular price, yes I would move on the Allen Edmonds or other more serious shoes in the $300+ range (since you're spending nearly that for these). Like my other dress oxfords, these too run a bit large, so I went down to a 9.5 when normally I wear 10s for Nike, etc. Dress shoes often require a lower size since they are more exact and devoid of fluff and padding. They seem a millimeter or so wide for my normal feet, yet the shoe closes appropriately around the top of my foot/ankle. No wiggle, but no tightness either. Very comfortable in my opinion. I could have possibly gotten away with a snug 9 and remained happy. It's simply preference. These shoes look, and smell fantastic.
