The boots look great, however they initially have a strong smell when you first open the box. The only real issue I had with them was the vamp was too low to wear thick socks with the boots. The vamp is the portion of the shoe between the cap toe and the laces. I would recommend the product even though it does not fit me comfortably with thick socks.
They took a little while to break in but after that process was over these boots became the most comfortable pair I own. The cap toe version seems to be a bit heavier than the regular '1000 Mile' but not overbearing in the least bit.
I couldn't be happier with my purchase. These boots look great; I've received several compliments on them. I ordered the same size that I usually wear, and they fit perfectly to me. Took a little breaking in, but worth it (especially on sale!).
So far I'm very happy with my purchase of the 1000 miles cap toe in both colors. I was in the market for new boots, heard good things, and decided to pull the trigger on both black and brown when they both were on sale.
The style on them is exactly what I was looking for. It has a rugged look, but also classy enough that it can be dressed up if needed. The color on the brown is a bit lighter than the round toe 1000 miles, but still a fairly medium dark shade of brown - very similar to the picture and lighter than the round toes. It looks great on denim. The black is just black, but to my surprise, the laces look great with them in person (I didn't like the online picture... they look more brown in pictures but they are more of a glossy black). Though, I do have to say the soles are still brown, so if you are not fashion savvy, I would be wary because it could be relatively difficult to match well. The cap toe on both bring something extra to the boot visually, making them look more interesting. Also, I ordered my size and they feel a bit big, but not obnoxiously so. You could probably size a half size down most likely.
The leather is very tough and substantial. Its comfortable enough to wear, but will require some time for break in. While some other boots I own have a very soft and comfortable leather right out of the box, this one feels like a tank, which has pros and cons. While somewhat stiff, I'm sure the leather will hold up much longer and develop more character from wear without damaging the integrity of the leather itself. And when I say stiff, I mean its wearable and not like a tough pair of boat shoes that blister your feet. The sole seems to be holding up to lighter use so far, mostly just walking on pavement and indoor. I have some other boots and I would probably opt to wear them if I had to do anything outdoorsy or messy... not because the 1000 miles couldn't handle it, but because at the price and in its current appearance, I rather beat on some other pair like my 10 year old pair of Timberlands that I do yard work in.
So, in conclusion, if you are looking for a stylish boot that looks and acts like a boot should, these are a no brainer especially on sale.
